introduction
This website was created to serve as an academic portfolio to showcase some of my best works throughout my four years as a high school student at AMES.
A Little About myself
I joined AMES in 2012 as a freshman. I found AMES through my older brother, who attended before me, and has been a big influence in my life. I attended Robert Frost Elementary and Woodstock Elementary and Joel P. Jensen Middle School. I've played the violin since I was 11 years old and continue to play as well as explore other instruments; I have been a part of the West Jordan Youth Symphony and the Cottonwood High School Concert Orchestra.
As a freshman, I joined the science fair at AMES which was an incredible experience and influenced my decision on the field I want to go into in college. When I was 4 years old I would watch Dr. Phil and pretend to be him. As I grew older, and was about to enter Jr. High, I decided I wanted to study psychiatry. I had subscribed, and still am, to magazines such as Scientific American Mind and Psychology Today. My junior year of high school I took an internship at a local children center that worked with young children and their families who have undergone traumas or neglect etc. My senior year, I created a short film with the intention of it serving as a conversation starter and motivation for the involvement of the public in the government process .
My hobbies are: playing music, writing, soccer, painting/sketching, reading, cooking, and DIY projects. I believe that DIY (Do It Yourself) can be a very fun and creative hobby and can be beneficial in organization and recycling. Growing up I had a lot of extra time and imagination to let loose, so I started writing. The relaxed pleasure I get from writing originated from when I was pretty young; my mother writes in her free time and from elementary to high school I've had English classes that assign to write a short story based on a prompt we were given. Painting and sketching have also been a hobby of mine since I was pretty young. My father and brother both have a knack for it and I've entered in a few community competitions, winning some as well. Its a great way for me to express my creative side and sometimes still use rational thinking when thinking of composition etc. Its very fun for me! Growing up I watched way too much TV, hours and hours a day, to the point of getting sick of watching the same episodes because I had already seen the majority of what was shown. Being so bored I started reading and fell in love with the hobby! I admit there are times when I become very selective of the books I read, mostly based off of the genre, however I get really sucked into books and have a collection of favorites and quotes from them that I liked.

Closed Path - Rabindranath Tagore
I thought that my voyage had come to its end
at the last limit of my power,
---that the path before me was closed,
that provisions were exhausted
and the time to take shelter in a silent obscurity.
But I find that thy will knows no end in me.
And when old words die out on the tongue,
new melodies break forth from the heart;
and where the old tracks are lost,
new country is revealed with its wonders.
